Bon Echo

I’m using Bon Echo – currently the alpha 3 release of the next generation Firefox browser.

I’m really impressed that even as an alpha it’s seemingly rock solid – and with some really nice enhancements.

One thing I did miss was some of my plugins – mainly around web development.

Most plugins are written to support the current branch of Firefox – i.e. 1.5.x – I found a plugin to help with these on Bon Echo.

The MR Tech Local Install plugin works with Bon Echo – also it allows the ‘max version’ tag for plugins to be directly overridden. That lets me install all manner of newer plugins on my cutting edge Firefox.

ZENworks and end-point security

A couple of announcements that may have slipped under the radar – two security partnerships at BrainShare:

SecureWave – providing removable device lockdown and security, application white and blacklisting – all tied in to Novell Identity
Third Brigade – providing a smart, small, host based intrusion detection system.

Press here from Third Brigade. I’ll add SecureWave when it hits the wire.

Firefox 2.0 alpha – Bon Echo

I’ve just got my latest nightly build of Firefox – it’s tagged as version 2.0 and codename is “Bon Echo”.

So far so good – I’m using it right now to write this post. Most extension are not supported because of specific versioning – but everything else is looking pretty clean.
